Metallic coated mirrors are front surface mirrors or surface mirrors and provide high broadband reflection for optical and technical systems. In addition, metallic mirrors can also be used in low-power laser systems.

Gold mirrors

Gold mirrors are preferably used in the infrared spectral range. We recommend using them from a wavelength of 700 nm. Since gold is a precious metal, it does not tarnish and can therefore be used without a protective layer. However, since gold is very soft, we recommend a dielectric protective layer to allow for occasional cleaning. We manufacture gold mirrors from:

Silver mirrors

Silver mirrors are preferably used in the visible to infrared spectral range. There it shows the highest reflection of all metals. However, since silver tarnishes easily and the reflection drops with time, we recommend always protecting it with a layer of oxide. This slows down the aging process, but cannot prevent it completely. Silver mirrors are made from the following materials:

Aluminium mirrors

Aluminum mirrors are used exclusively in the ultraviolet or visible spectral range. In the UV range, it is the metal with the highest reflection. It can be easily vapor-deposited and is thus a frequently used material for optical systems. In addition, aluminum should always be provided with a protective coating so that the aging process is minimized by the formation of oxide layers. We manufacture aluminum mirrors from the following materials:

Rhodium and platinum mirrors

Rhodium and platinum mirrors are used when very hard and also chemically stable mirror coatings are required. The reflectance of these two metals is lower than that of gold, silver or aluminum. However, their physical chemical properties make them an ideal alternative for demanding applications.

Rhodium mirrors are often used in dentistry. Platinum mirrors are used in gas analysis, for example. Rhodium and platinum mirror layers can be thermally deposited on the following materials:

- OFHC Copper
- Aluminium
