Gold mirror for the NIR-FIR

Gold mirror

Gold mirrors are preferably used in the infrared spectral range. We recommend using these from a wavelength of 700 nm. As gold is a precious metal, it does not tarnish and can therefore be used without a protective coating. In addition to the advantages of gold as a coating material, its low hardness and tendency to scratch easily pose challenges. Here it is advisable to apply an additional protective layer to the gold coating. This increases the long-term stability and protects against mechanical stress without impairing the properties of the optical system. Modern coating technologies enable the application of such protective layers (dielectric coatings), which ensure the longevity of gold-coated optics under various operating conditions and additionally increase their performance (reflectivity). We manufacture gold mirrors from:

  • Quartz, Zerodur, sapphire
  • Silicon
  • OFHC Copper
  • Aluminum

Gold mirrors for the infrared spectrum

Gold mirrors, also known as gold-coated mirrors, are a highly sophisticated and powerful type of mirror that offer several unique advantages and special features. These mirrors are produced by applying a thin layer of gold to a substrate, usually quartz or metal. The main advantages:

  • Excellent reflectivity in the infrared spectrum (IR)
  • High chemical resistance, especially to acids and corrosive environments
  • Outstanding durability and longevity, with minimal deterioration over time
  • Low absorption of incident light, which reduces heat generation
  • Ideal for use in harsh environments, e.g. in aerospace or industrial applications.
  • Compatibility with a wide range of substrates, including glass, ceramics and metals
  • Oxidation resistance, maintenance of performance in oxygen-rich environments
