CO2 optics

CO2 Optics / Mirrors / Reflectors

Pleiger Laseroptik’s precision CO2 optics / total reflectors are used within a laser cavity or external to the laser as bending mirrors. Internal total reflectors are rear mirrors, outcouple mirrors or folding mirrors. Total reflectors are front (first) surface coated optics for maximium reflectivity made of copper or polished silicon.

Our CO2 optic product range includes flat mirrors and spherical optics of silicon, copper, silicon carbide, and beryllium. Combined with our gold-based high-power coatings, we offer precisely the suitable laser mirror for any application with a wavelength of 10.6 μm. Pleiger is your partner for designing, engineering or manufacturing CO2 lasers or CO2 laser systems for industrial or medical applications. PLEIGERS’s design and manufacturing capability covers optics for CO2 lasers from a few watts to over several kilowatts output power.

The Pleiger Resonator / Cavity optics are designed and manufactured to the highest standards of reflectivity and durability, to preserve laser power and laser mode und the harsh demands of the internal laser cavity or the external industrial operating environment. Standard PLEIGER laser mirrors are designed to handle CO2 laser power levels up to several kilowatts with proper cooling, mounting and protection.

Thorium free coatings. Custom designs.

Optics terms

A short introduction to important optical terms according to optics specifications.

Laser damage threshold

The laser damage threshold (LDT) or laser induced damage threshold (LIDT) is the limit at which an optic or material will be damaged by a laser. LIDT is affected by various parameters including laser wavelength, pulse duration, pulse repetition, frquency, spot size, temporal and spatial profile. Thus  two standards have been developed for testing: ISO 11254-1 and 11254-2.

Optical figure

Peak-to-valley departure (PV) is entrenched in optics design and manufacture as a characterization of an optical figure. After removal of piston and tilt for flats and best fit sphere for spherical surfaces PV is specified as height difference between highest and lowest point from the nominal surface shape.

Clear aperture (CA)

The clear aperture is defined as the part of an optics that must meet the given specifications. Outside the clear aperture the quality might fail the specifications.
